Dealing With Difficult Interview Situations When You Have Little Work Experience

There is nothing worse than being called into an interview when you know you do not have enough experience to be considered for the job. This may become a very difficult situation for anyone who desires to work for a company, but their work and industry specific experience are somewhat slim. How does one deal with performing well at an interview when they are aware that their work experience may disqualify them from the applicant race?

As with all interviews, preparation is vitally important if you wish to make a great impression. You may lack the necessary experience, but that does not say that you lack the zeal to do the job. Go into the interview with your best foot forward. Warmly greet the interviewer as you enter the room. Greet him or her with an equally warm and pleasant smile. Make your entrance and start impressing right away.

Allow the interview to progress by question and answer. Answer each and every question honestly. It helps to smile while doing so. When your interviewer addresses the fact that you have little experience in the field in which you're applying, kindly ask for a minute or two to speak on the matter.

This is where advance preparation comes into double play. You will have prepared in advance what you will say to the employer to possibly encourage him or her to call you back for a second interview although your experience is inadequate. If you have extraordinary abilities to learn quickly, highlight this first. Show him or her that you are a person worth investing in. Discuss your power of reason and your ability to devise new ideas. Give examples in your limited work history that will further encourage him or her to accept you back for a second interview.

Your goal is to get through this seemingly difficult situation without getting fazed or too upset because of your limited work experience. Be enthusiastic about the job you are applying for and speak about what motivates you to seek out the opportunity to work for the company. At all times, be confident in yourself. You should be convinced that you can accomplish the tasks set out for the job. Your goal is to convince the interviewer. Your interviewer will appreciate your honesty and your wholehearted confidence and enthusiasm for the job. Do not allow the fact of your limited work experience to get you down. With proper preparation and the right amount of enthusiasm and confidence you should be able to win over your prospective employer and get the job.

Job Interview Questions - How to deal with a poor interviewer.

One of the more frustrating aspects to an interview is coming up against an interviewer that is inexperienced and has failed to prepare adequately for the interview.

All too often these are the very people who get to make the decision on hiring. Unfortunately many of these Mangers are notoriously bad interviewers who have had relatively little training in this process. They very often fail to prepare for the meeting, sometimes not even reading the resume prior to the interview. This results in a disjointed and often one-sided affair as they try to compensate for their lack of preparation.

It is devastating to prepare thoroughly for an interview, only to be faced with an interview that talks far too much, fails to elicit the relevant information or even worse asks closed questions allowing you only a one or two word response to each question.
This in turn gives the perception that you have nothing to offer which is completely to the contrary.

Should you find yourself in this unenviable position you must be able to overcome this problem. The only option open to you is to be extremely well prepared going into the interview. Have a clear idea of the message you are communicating and a determination to sell your key points. Do not rely on the interviewer to be successful, make the interview work for you.

How To Deal With A Stressful Interview And Still Make A Good Impression

We all know how stressful it is to participate in a job interview. Job interviews are ranked highest among the leading causes of stress among Americans. Performing in front of a potential employer can be nerve-wrecking, if not slightly debilitating for some people. If you are one of those who suffer from interview anxiety, there is hope! It is possible to make your interview successful. Here are some helpful tips.

Recognize Your Stress

This is the first step to dealing with a stressful interview. Recognizing that you are stressed in the first place! Some early signs that may alert you of your body's stress level may include, but are not limited to: tightening of the shoulders, neck and back, sweaty palms, dry mouth and increased heart rate. Early detection of such signs and symptoms is imperative when formulating a plan of action to combat stress during an interview.

Preparation

Advanced preparation is vital to performing well during an interview. Like any other task you will perform throughout your lifetime, participating effectively at a job interview requires preparation. Prepare your mind and your body for this interview. Sleeping well the night before, eating a well balanced breakfast or lunch, and acknowledging your anxiety, goes well with preparing for this interview. Being well prepared dramatically decreases the levels of stress you may experience. You will find when you're prepared that you are not "grabbing at straws", or "groping for words." And the delivery of your answers will be fluent and appear to be well thought out.

Listen

Listen carefully to what your interviewer is saying. If possible, train your ears to listen for "hidden" questions that he/she may bring up later. An example of this is: "We try our best to make all of our employees happy. Our most loyal of employees hold us in high regard, but still there are some who are not happy." Later he may ask you how you feel about your previous employer. It doesn't matter how badly your previous employers treated you, do NOT speak abusively of them! Potential employers will see you as having a complaining mind-set. It's best to be positive at all times. Keep listening and think before you speak.

Do Not Give in to Intimidation

Some potential employers purposely intimidate you to see how you will react under pressure. Do not give in to the intimidation! You can't change your interviewer and more than likely he/she doesn't want to be changed, so it is best to take the intimidation and turn it in your favor. How? Show yourself as a cool and collected individual. Don't let it faze you! Your interviewer will see you as someone who is cool under pressure and someone who knows how to handle distressing circumstances. So when you notice a slight or even an apparent intimation tactic in play. Be cool, and do not give in to the intimidation.

And Lastly, RELAX!

Take a deep breath and realize that you are here because your potential employer saw something in you that he/she could possibly use! Relax and take your time when answering the questions.

Always remember that you are in control of this interview. Proper preparation and implementing coping methods during the interview will help you to deal with a stressful interview. When you come out of it, you will realize that you did your best! It's as simple as that. Have confidence! You can do it.

Interview Preparation - Interview or Interrogation.

Anyone who has suffered through a bad interview experience may feel that it was the closest thing to an interrogation they have ever endured.

This is a misconception and while we sympathize with any individuals who have left an interview feeling depressed, cheer up, you were unfortunate, it is not the norm believe us.

Do not allow an interviewer to conduct a one-way process, if you do, without doubt it will feel like an interrogation. This is a fundamental error, which will leave you squirming in your chair as you await the end to come.

It is easy to understand how candidates feel intimidated; it appears that the interviewer holds all the cards. Let’s face it they are in control at the outset sitting at their desk holding your resume as though they have all the right answers to the questions, the layout of the room and their handling of the situation. It is easy to feel at a disadvantage.

To turn that disadvantage to your benefit, behave in a considerate and courteous manner, arrive on time and observe basic courtesies such as making eye contact and giving the interviewer a firm handshake. Do not slouch into your chair and attempt to become invisible, sit up straight, smile warmly and answer questions with confidence and a positive attitude.

Don’t allow yourself to feel threatened or intimidated in anyway for this will quickly become evident. Take control of your part of the process and behave with consideration, courtesy and professionalism.

Be careful though, you may find yourself enjoying the experience!
